Summary: UDAAN is one of the foremost
centers at Delhi for Training, Rehabilitation and Early Intervention with
Integration of children with moderate to severe Cerebral Palsy, Mental
Retardation or Autism. It is a Central Govt. recognized and aided school project
running on charitable basis.

Foundation for Spastic
and Mentally Handicapped
Persons - is a charitable trust dedicated to
help children with various brain related disorders like cerebral palsy, autism,
mental retardation, hydrocephalus, microcephaly, post-traumatic or
post-encephalitic brain/neurological dysfunction, etc.
Its main activity center is UDAAN for the
Differently Abled.
PRESENT STATUS OF FSMHP
Current student strength: The regular, Govt. aided UDAAN School has 44
children, with about three-fourths being cases of moderate to severe
multiple handicaps like Cerebral palsy (with most having concomitant mental
retardation, speech impairment, hearing impairment, vision defects, lack of
bowel and bladder control, epileptic fits, etc.), and the balance
one-fourth comprising Mental Retardation, Down Syndrome, Autism,
Microcephaly, Hydrocephalus, Spinal Injury and Muscular Dystrophy. The age
range is from about 3 to 19 years.
The Out-Patient Department provides the six-month regimen of Multimode
Early Medical Intervention Therapy for Cerebral Palsy. About six dozen
children aged 1 to 6 years have already "graduated" out, and about
three dozen are currently undergoing therapy.
The UDAAN School is recognized and aided by Ministry of Social Justice and
Empowerment, Govt. of India, as a project for Education and Training of
severely MH children.
The Trust: FSMHP, is registered with the Income Tax Department, is
regularly audited for IT purposes, has received its Income Tax Permanent
Account Number (PAN), and has been granted Income Tax Exemption under 80G
of the Income Tax Act.
FSMHP is also recognized by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India,
who have kindly registered FSMHP under the Foreign Currency (Regulation)
Act to receive payments and donations in foreign currency.
UDAAN has made a name for itself among the Disability Centers of Delhi for
the degree of improvement achieved in the children with CP, MR or Autism
entrusted to its care.
UDAAN has put up two large public performances on professional stage, with
a two hour continuous ballet on Ramayana (ancient Indian Epic. Video
available for private showing only) and a 1.5 hour two part musical on The
Selfish Giant (video and audio-CD available for private showing only)
The Government does aid UDAAN, but the aid covers only about a third of
our expenses. Hence, UDAAN continues to run largely with the help of
donations and income from Souvenir Advertisement.
